Transforming Care for Children

A new state-of-the-art Pediatric Emergency room will reveal a pediatric-friendly environment where patients see a doctor first – Doc1stERSM for Kids.

Pediatric Patients Require a Specific Environment

LEVEL III NICU

Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will expand, allowing for semi-private rooms that will promote intimate bonding between the baby and its parents. A Neonatologist will be present in the NICU 24/7 to ensure continuous care.

Specialized Pediatric Care

Much consideration has been given to the care required for pediatric patients.  Families and pediatric patients will see improved care processes, specialized pediatric medical equipment, and 24/7 care by board-certified pediatric physicians, as well as a new pediatric operating room.  A renovated Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) will have eighteen rooms equipped to meet every need of our pediatric patients.

Pediatric ER Treatment Rooms

Ten pediatric treatment rooms in our new Pediatric ER will use Philips Ambient Experience Technology to help calm patients with dim, colorful lighting, and playful projections on the wall. Patients and their families are able to control the scene and the lighting in each room, providing a sense of control and reducing anxiety during a potentially stressful

A Family Friendly Environment

In our new pediatric unit, children will enjoy playing in a brand-new playroom equipped with toys and games appropriate for all ages. Parents will appreciate the parental sleeping rooms which will allow families to interact together while in the hospital.

Education

Expectant families can participate in a number of preparatory courses taught by our experienced staff. Courses range from birthing, breastfeeding, childcare, and sibling preparation. The Florida Hospital Foundation will also begin a program that provides free car seats to mothers attending a pre-natal class who need them.

Birthing Experience

Newly renovated Labor & Delivery rooms will provide a comfortable setting to welcome the newest member of the family.

Mom and Baby Recovery Rooms

After delivery, babies will stay with the mother in the Mom & Baby recovery room allowing for the natural bond between the two to begin immediately.  Nurses will be experienced in caring for both mom and the baby.

Support

Mothers experience a variety of unique emotions and physical changes after having a baby. We offer support ranging from post-partum depression, to breastfeeding, to creating a community of new moms where they can gain support from one another.

Transforming Care for Tampa Families

Our collaboration with Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC) has strengthened our efforts to serve every member of our community, including those who are uninsured, under-insured, on Medicare and Medicaid, or living under the poverty level.

Together, we will work to provide prenatal care, education, and labor and delivery options at Florida Hospital Tampa. Our joint efforts have also led to the opening of a primary care service center operated by TFHC on the Florida Hospital Tampa campus, a significant benefit to many in our community without access to primary care. This partnership with Tampa Family Health Centers is currently the only Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the state which is located on the campus of a major hospital.
